We were fortunate enough to play a big role in these works at Derby as part of a refurbishment of a hotel at Derby River lights. We removed the old existing glazing systems as their configuration was not suitable for the new occupiers and the change of use.
Curtain walling was used in this application originally and in our new installation for its strength over larger areas. Its 200mm deep sections give rigidity and structural support to glass and automatic doors where regular shopfront sections would not.
This is the stage where we removed the existing curtain walling system, replacing it with a new deeper section with central doors.
Working long days with late nights it was very handy for our installation teams to stay in the hotel where they were installing the glazing systems. Once the day was done they grabbed their tools and went up to their rooms to get ready for their evening meal and a few hours rest, before breakfast and another early start.
As the job started to take shape and all the units where replaced with new systems, the whole front of the buildings looked much more modern and suited its new layout as a Premier Inn Hotel.
As well as internal foyer curtain walling to the main entrance with automatic doors plus other works internally. ABC were able to replace six large spans of curtain walling on the ground floor of the hotel in ten working days or two weeks, which was a week early in the three week time slot allocated to us.
